So many pleasures here to burn
A scarce and sacred few were earned
The rest came around as gifts of love,
a shower of comforts, a splash from the pond

The beast that made us all,
this beast of want and vision
guards the doors to all my dreams
and every word I’ve written
The beast that made us all
is the breathing Earth we live in
A layer made of wishes in
a world of light and steam
A trillion times a trillion
are the lives that came before us
Here we are,
still driven
to believe that we’re important
Even pain and pleasure
are inventions of the beast
Along with good and evil
and the flavors of the feast
All to meet some quiet goal,
some goal of great importance
The goal is simply ‘replicate’
Numbers make a fortress
This beast is close to God for life,
but really, it’s just Self
The Self that makes a planet cry
And even that will say goodbye
